Ontario SPCA Barrie Branch needs help to care for a puppy with a broken leg

We like to let people know about issues facing landlords. Sometimes the issues aren’t only important for landlords and we want to contact as many people as we can.

The people of Barrie are a warm hearted community and we love pets.

On Thursday June 20th the Ontario SPCA Barrie Branch received a phone call from TOPDOG K9 Services doggy daycare and training facility Owner Operator Kathy Currie-Eyers.

Kathy explained that a German Shepard mix about 14 weeks old was dropped off at TOPDOG K9 daycare.

Whoever dropped the dog said the puppy had originally been dropped off at the farm her grandparents own. Unfortunately, the grandparents couldn’t adopt the dog and take care of him.

Kathy said she noticed the puppy was very nervous and very shy and he wasn’t putting any weight on his back leg.

Upon further inspection she saw the pup’s toenail had been injured (ripped off) and he was in really bad pain.

The puppy was taken to a veterinarian where X-rays revealed that dog required surgery as soon as possible to repair a broken back leg The Ontario SPCA Barrie Branch now has the puppy in their care.

They are working with Allandale Veterinarian Hospital to make sure the surgery is completed on “Braveheart.” (That’s the puppy’s new name).

Melissa Bainbridge is the branch manager of the Barry branch of the SPCA. She says “We are asking the public for their help with covering the costs of this surgery and others like it.”

She continued by saying, “This surgery will be upwards of $2,500, including check ups and x-rays, to ensure Braveheart is healing correctly post operatively.” Donations are being accepted at The Ontario SPCA Barrie Branch at 91 Patterson Road, Barrie, Ontario.

If anyone has any information about Braveheart and how he was hurt please contact the Ontario SPCA Investigations Department at 1-888-668-7722.
